Size, texture, colouring, curve. All important
Hold each to the light.
Feel the weight.
Take one. Match it to the sporran.

Pause.
Turn on the background light jazz.
It sets the mood.
Start sanding. Three grades of grit.
Carefully.
File and shape the butt to take that Turk’s head knot.
Sand again. 1600 grit.
Polish by hand.
At least twice.

Check it with the sporran for fit.
Inspect the bore. Open it up to hold the braided thong.
Pause.
This is going to be a beauty.
There’s something immensely satisfying in taking something so fine (and often discarded) and giving it new life.
On a distinctive sporran that shouts.
