The scientific name for this magnificent antelope is Oryx gazella, commonly found across the plains and savannah (veld) of southern and eastern Africa. It has those terrific, long, straight horns and a long, tufted tail. We're told that in Germany, gemsbok is the common name for the chamois, a type of goat-antelope!
The gemsbok hide we use in sporran-making is very durable, with a slightly coarser hair and is generally a grey-tan colour doing towards tawny. They look terrific in front of many Muted, Hunting and Ancient tartans. We're occasionally able to get a superb sporran from the spine of the pelt and this has a ridged darker stripe.
All our roomy sporrans are lined with our signature burgundy suede.
Make your mates jealous.
