The NYALA (Tragelaphus angasii) is a rather large spiral-horned antelope inhabiting dense woodlands and thickets along permanent water across southern Africa.. It is very secretive and is more easily seen at night.
The handsome slate-brown shaggy coat is marked with white vertical stripes and spots on the flanks and a surprisingly hairy underbody. Bulls appear more charcoal-grey in colour. The bulls have long inward curved horns and a white chevroned face.
As the coat is courser and shaggier than most other African antelope, this would perhaps be better suited if used for sporrans of a more casual design. The colours (russet through to dusty greys) are perfect with many green, Hunting and Muted tartans.
